| What
Is Swim Therapy? |
|
Utilizing
the conditions of a warm pool, gentle massage
techniques are used to relieve pain and strengthen
and retrain muscles. Isokinetic Relaxation is used
in conjunction with Cranio-Sacral and Myofascial
Release techniques while the animal is in motion.
The water is a warm 88-92 degrees, which has been
shown to help muscles relax while the dog is
swimming, the dog is virtually weightless which
may allow it to immediately use a full range of
motion. The dog's movement while swimming
increases blood flow and oxygenation to the
healing tissues, facilitating the natural healing
process. The combination of the dog's muscle
relaxation, movement in the water, virtual
weightlessness, and the aid of the therapist, the
dog's body is allowed to, in a sense, adjust
itself. This is why results occur quickly and can
last for a long period of time.
Swim Therapy (Hydrotherapy) as a form of
rehabilitation and preventive care is recommended
highly by general and orthopedic vets. |
